Business context
An aerospace manufacturing site was undergoing an operational reset led by a management team from headquarters. As one of the facility's few data and analytics resources, I supported that initiative and provided ad hoc help across financial operations reporting, parts management, and people management. Reliable ERP parts data was one component of this broader analytical support.
The challenge
An engineering quality manager needed to verify that ERP entries for thousands of parts met new specifications. Requirements varied by part category, and the existing process relied on weekly manual spot checks of only a subset of records.
My contribution
I worked with the manager to define required data types and conditional business rules, then built an Excel Power Query prototype to check the extracted ERP data against those specifications. We refined the solution over several sessions while I taught the manager how to use Power Query.
Results
The solution checked the full extracted dataset in minutes and produced KPIs, summaries, and detail views using pivot tables and charts. It expanded coverage beyond manual sampling and enabled the manager to apply Power Query to other problems. Across the broader manufacturing work, automation of data integration and reporting substantially shortened the time to actionable information for operational teams.
